Senior League Baseball Bats
Senior League Baseball is a division of Little League for boys and girls aged 14 - 16. Bats are measured in inches for length and ounces for weight. Minus numbers are used to show the bats weight relative to it's length, for example a 30" bat that weighs 27 ounces is a -3.
Senior League bats have to follow Little League Rule 1.10. Rule 1.10 specifies that the bat must be 36" inches or shorter and that the barrel can be up to 2 5/8" (highschool regulation). 2 3/4" (big barrel) bats are no longer allowed. The bat can be wood, aluminum, or composite. They must also follow the -3 drop rule which states the ratio of length to weight can be no more than -3.
High school baseball bats and college bats have a maximum allowable barrel of 2 5/8". High school and college also follow the -3 drop rule. Bats must have BESR (Bat Exit Speed Ratio) certification.
Starting in 2009 Little League baseball requires bats in the Senior League to be BESR Certified.
Senior League, Big League, Highschool, and College leagues now have virtually the same bat rules.
The -3 drop rule and BESR certification are in place to ensure the ball comes off the bat at safe speeds.
When selecting any type of youth baseball bat it is important to check out the bat's overall length, weight, barrel size, and most importantly, your leagues requirements.
Now that you know the requirements you can find that perfect Senior League baseball bat for the upcoming season.
